    Summary

"James had died knowing that his heart, the core of his very being that no biographer would ever know, would carry on in Francis Crozier. Would be protected, cherished even, because Francis deemed him worthy of such care.

Oh, how he had loved Francis then. He had been at peace with this being his last living thought.

It’s his only thought now. In this undead life, his love has nowhere to go."

James Fitzjames wakes up in the Afterlife. It looks strangely similar to his cabin on Erebus.

death is a sailing ship by Maleann

James has made his point as plainly as he dares. He can see Sir John at war with himself, but James knows that he has no counter-argument beyond the inability to imagine life going on without him.

It just happened that, faced with the prospect of pretending nothing was amiss, that what they experienced after 1845 didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, the crew of Terror decided to politely refuse.

    Summary

I will relate in these pages such lurid and sensational goings-on, as I had cause to observe during my tenure as a steward on board HMS Priapus, which I hope will serve both to stimulate the Reader, and to warn him as to the mode of life enjoyed by the officers of the Royal Navy, who are the sons of gentlemen and gentlemen themselves, tho’ the Reader must himself judge, whether they deserve the name.

Such lurid and sensational goings-on by Charlotte_Stant

period-accurate pornography destroyed me, truly the most atrocious thing ive ever laid my eyes upon, i love it

They find out the identity of the story’s author a few months later, when George Hodgson approaches James in Erebus’s wardroom after supper and asks casually, “I say, old chap, you haven’t happened to see a stray piece of writing anywhere, have you? I had a pretty decent little chronicle written down—a fictionalised account of ship’s life, from the point of view of a steward, you know—and I seem to have misplaced it.”

James stares at him speechlessly. Eventually he’s able to reply, “Did your story feature a Captain Fozier, by any chance? And a Tom Bowline?”

“Yes!” George is delighted. “That’s the very one.”

“No,” James says, face expressionless. “I’m afraid I haven’t seen it. Hard luck, George.”

The better Tom came to know Edward, the more he wanted to fit the tender edge of a blade to the closed-off parts of him and gently prise him open like an oyster. To leave no space between them.

“She didn’t change much before settling?”

“No. We were always as we are.”

The lines between his brows had returned. They looked too much like worry so Tom smoothed them with slow strokes of his thumb. Milly alit on Edward’s bent knee.

Tom shivered at the first touch to his short side-whiskers. There was a full, rolling sensation beneath his skin, a bright flutter, but he breathed slowly in and out and didn’t move again except for his thumb stroking Edward’s brow as Gregoria carefully preened him.

no more gales or heavy weather by eternalbrook

“I did want to be a… want to be a girl.”
Sol thinks on this. “Well, that’s not so odd. When I was wee I wanted to be a horse.”
    Tommy looks at the floor.
    “It’s not just that, then?”
“It didn’t go away. I… I never felt like much of a man. You ever heard of that before?”
Sol is quiet for a while, considering. “No, I never heard of that before. But there’s a lot I don’t know about.”
