Alex swallows audibly, eyes darting all over Henry’s face. “Your Ro— Henry.” And oh, that’s the timbre with which Henry wants to hear his name come out of Alex’s mouth; it’s low and a little frantic, and it tugs at something in Henry’s navel. “I’m twice your age.”
“Do you think I’m twenty?”
“Jesus Christ, I rounded for dramatic effect.” Alex fixes him with a look that’s half frustration, half something Alex is trying very hard not to let show. The thing is, though, that Henry became an expert at covert glances and hidden signals during his time at Oxford, and he’d bet his entire ridiculous Crown allowance that Alex wants him as badly as he wants Alex.
Or, Alex is a senator; Henry is a prince who knows exactly what he wants.

He spotted Merlin in the tavern when he was having a pint of terrible mead.Having said that, it was pretty typical of him to want to do so. And it usually was a blanket term he said when he was not sure what he wanted to do for the night. However that day, Gwaine truly wanted to do nothing but drink.

If his furrowed brow is anything to go by, Henry is stumped. “What?”
“I have an emotional connection with you.”
“Alex, you can’t possibly be suggesting-”

Alex’s jaw clenches. “He’s a good dude.”
“He is. Handsome too.” He has no clue why he says it until it’s already out in the open.
“Huh,” Alex says, eyes dark when they meet Henry’s, “you think?”
Henry finds himself nodding, swallowing tightly around the glass of water Alex passes him. “Yes. He’s from Texas, isn’t he?”
“We both are.” Alex’s knuckles are tinged with white where they sit around his glass. “Grew up together.”
“Cowboy,” Henry snorts, a private joke almost to himself. He’d had a bit of a thing for cowboys in his youth. Something that had unfortunately also crossed over into his writing.
“You like cowboys?” Alex asks.
And suddenly it feels dangerous.
Or, Pez is determined that this blind date will be the one to end all others. Henry's a lot more interested in his date's best friend.
