Summary
Dennis Reynolds has but one summer left to savor before he graduates into full adulthood, and he plans to make good use of it. Through his friend Mac he is reunited with an old high school friend of theirs, one Charlie Kelly, who, though once fairly insignificant to Dennis, has grown to become rather attractive in the year or so since he’s last seen him. Dennis quickly finds a place for Charlie in his summer plans, but he has no way of foreseeing just how much that decision will truly affect him.

How can a fundamental misunderstanding be perpetuated for actual decades between close-knit friends?
Easily, if you're self-absorbed enough.
Charlie's track record of miscommunication catches up with him, creating a shitstorm to end all shitstorms within the gang, one that probably won't be so easily recovered from with the typical bouts of physical fighting. Dennis is on the war path, Dee is finding empowerment in her womanhood, and Mac has been catapulted further into the closet than was ever imaginable. The culling day is upon Philadelphia, all thanks to warm beer, tall tales of titanium body parts, and an ill-fated game of roshambo.

Summary
As if the thought of voluntarily meeting up with a long lost high school classmate wasn’t abysmal enough, he was a forty-three year old man who couldn’t stomach an entire meal without a trip to the bathroom. A man so psychologically inept that he’d made a living out of peddling advice he’d never implement in his own life. A hypocrite. Dennis Reynolds was, if anything, a hypocrite, and Dee was going to force him to parade that fact around in front of someone who knew him before he knew how to hide it.
An AU in which Dennis, Dee, Mac and Charlie stopped talking to each other after graduation, and everything went perfectly for them-- or at least it did on paper, even if they're all secretly miserable. When Charlie's enthusiasm to run into Dee after decades apart brings the four of them back together, their relatively successful lives begin to unravel, forcing them to choose between the familiar melancholy of their lives as they are or the chance to leave everything they worked for behind and start over together.
