Summary
Nick knows that at least one of the boys they'd expected not to see today has come before he has to see them, before he even hears them, their laughter ricocheting forcefully through the cinema, twined with that of their rugby mates. He and Charlie are standing on the escalator, two steps apart but still tucked against each other, close enough Nick can feel when Charlie tenses and bristles.
