“I need to be by your side.” Desmond repeats. He smiles weakly, face contorted with apology. “These visions . . . this power. Perhaps, I am beyond nature. I need to be here. I need to be with you, Emperor.”
“I understand.” Javicco nods, eyes scanning.
“Do you?” Desmond whispers. “Must I say it?”
“You will stay by my side.”
The emperor raises a hand, letting it land light and intimate. He cups Desmond’s chin with a simple curiosity, fingers snaking firmly around the side of his neck. The soldier’s stomach buckles at the sudden touch. Javicco raises his face gently.
“I will be your weapon.” Desmond promises. His rough fingers curl around the royal cloak.
“Weapon.” Javicco nods.
