Summary
Mike Wheeler was popular for the first time in his life when he joined the Hawkins basketball team. He went to parties, hung out with the popular crowd and even started smoking. Life was good until a familiar face he would've rather left in the past came back to Hawkins again. He knows he left things on a bad note with the person, so he tries to make it right again and might just fall in love in the process...
Will Byers was back for the first time in 4 years. His excuse for a dad had finally been kicked out and now he was being dragged back to Hawkins, the last place he ever thought he'd see again. When a group of young outcasts ask him to join their band, he accepts and starts his new life, but the past never stays in the past and old memories are brought up. Ones that he wished he could forget.

Will found himself staring out his dorm window, watching the clouds in the dark night sky. Then, he realized Mike could be in the same state as him at that moment, looking up at the same sky.
He missed Mike, or at least, the Mike he remembered. The Mike he played D&D with, the Mike he went on bike rides with. He wondered what eighteen-year-old Mike could be doing. He hoped to find him someday.
Little does he know, Mike is closer to him than he thinks.
Or:Will is finally going back to Indiana for college. He's even majoring in his passion and taking an Art History class. Unfortunately his talent also means that he's been selected to tutor an English major that can't analyze a painting to save his life. That English major may also be someone he hasn't seen in eight years.

Nearing footsteps crunching on the salt-sprinkled sidewalk cause Mike to jump away from the door. He looks to his left as a boy around his age approaches from the parking lot, shoving his keys into the back pocket of his sweats. He’s wrapped up cozily, in a thick winter jacket and big, fur-lined snow boots. A hockey bag is slung on one arm casually with a stick peeking out of the top.
The boy looks up and they meet eyes.
“Oh!” The boy says, obviously surprised to see Mike.

Sometimes, when Mike is drunk, his mind wanders back to things he thought he'd forgotten. Like hazel eyes and honey-brown hair that looked so soft, he swore he could feel it. A magazine page made to be removed by long nails and gentle hands, then taped to a locker or a mirror and looked at every day.
Mike had neither long nails nor gentle hands, then or now, and as much as he would've liked to, couldn't pry the staples up and take the page out. So every time his sister left the house, he'd sneak into her room and dig up the old magazine from under her bed, and stare at the boy until his eyes got tired and his sister was almost back.
He’d dreamed that maybe one day he'd get to meet him, see his face in person, and maybe find out if his hair was as soft as it looked. As his mother rose in political rank, his dream became very close to reality, but when he finally met the boy, he turned out to be a rude, stuck-up prince, and all of his dreams were crushed.
No matter how bad that first meeting was, the boy was just as beautiful as the picture—more, even. But he was never able to find out if his hair was as soft as it looked.

It didn't work out for them, Max momentarily died - 'mysteriously' brought back, Eddie gone, Hawkins in shambles, the Party hanging on by a thread and Will is just... off. Mike can't pin point what it is exactly, and the others too wrapped up with fighting off demogorgons, demodogs and demobats to notice the spiraling of both Mike and Will.
Will it be a repeat of history? Will more lives be lost?
