He is woken, for once, by the gentle sunlight streaming through the window of his cabin. Dust collects on the bed-frame in translucent sheets making his nose itch. And though he is otherwise comfortable, the bed is just beginning to warm.
In the edges of his awareness, he can just make out the creaking of wood, and how the water moves like a heartbeat against the bobbing of the ship. He is home.
He has to move.

There was an irony of being surrounded by coffee mugs but having never tasted the beverage. Stanley wasn’t even sure there was a coffee machine in this frustratingly simple complex. The office building had seemed so vast at first, but now, after so many run-throughs, he knew it like the back of his palm. He stared at the documents in the copier, meandered over to the pencil-sharpener, tried to open every door in the area. It was a routine now. Maybe The Narrator forgot to lock one, or perhaps he could clip through it this time.
He’d been programmed to never need to eat, nor sleep, nor to drink – but humans had always had a funny way of desperately craving that which they could not have.

Summary
Leshy is familiar with the cycle of these things. It begins, without fail, with a Challenger stumbling into his territory; lost, damp with rain and covered in twigs and leaves, all with an intoxicating mixture of curiosity, determination, and apprehension. His camera sits, neglected and dusty, on the mantel.
Not for long, he thinks to himself. Outside there is the sound of boots scuffing in the dirt, sniffles from the foggy and dewy air, and pauses borne of confused hesitation. Not for long at all.
